Almost half a million euro ready to provide a high quality park in county Tipperary town

Fine Gael councillor in Cashel, Declan Burgess, is delighted to announce the good news for his home town.

Cllr Declan Burgess announced on Monday last that €495,000 is to be awarded to Cashel from the Department of Rural and Community Development to provide a high quality Town Park and public amenity in the centre of the town.

“I am thrilled to announce significant funding awarded to Tipperary County Council from my colleague Minister Heather Humphreys to deliver a state of the art outdoor recreational space for our community, located in the beautiful fields adjacent to the Rock of Cashel. This will be a game changer for Cashel and I am delighted to have played a key role here for my hometown.

“I wish to thank the staff in the Municipal District, particularly project engineer Frank Cussen who worked with me to progress this application and bring this vital project forward.”

He previously proposed the project's part 8 planning and is a key driving force behind this development. Cashel Town Park project is set in the green fields connecting the Rock to the Town Centre, incorporating the beautiful and historic Bishop’s Walk trail.

“This project is a game changer for public space in our community. This immersive outdoor recreation area will act as a bridge between our town centre and the famous Rock of Cashel. The potential here is enormous,” he said.

“Works include gravel walkways, a boardwalk, reinforced grass paths, landscaping, natural play elements, fencing, seating and signage. Since striking a deal with the owners of the Cashel Palace Hotel in securing a public use for these lands for the years ahead, we have seen works on upgrading the Bothar na Marbh and Bishops Walk. Now work will commence in the coming months to make the town park a reality for this community.

“I am also extremely happy to announce that a new town wall walkway will open in the next 3 weeks which will see a walkway from the back of the courthouse into the Main Street Car Park. This further develops this area and acts as another key feature to this town park.

“I will work with the stakeholders involved to make this happen. Tipperary County Council are further adding €50,000 towards this upcoming works and are awaiting on another funding application result through the Outdoor Recreational Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) for this project. This is expected in the next few weeks. Cashel deserves a town park and this is part of my ambition for the town. This facility will be for everyone, a place where families can enjoy and visitors can explore. It will add major benefits to the social, cultural and economic value of the town" concluded, Declan.
