Historic buildings in Tipperary Town are to be renovated and used in the future for education and training needs

Almost €8 million in capital funding has been allocated to a project in Tipperary Town through the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund.
The funding has been allocated for the regeneration of Dan Breen House and Tipperary Courthouse and Bridewell.

The historic buildings will be repurposed to provide high quality education and training spaces for youths and adults as well as providing key community services in the town centre.

The funding has been long awaited and has been welcomed by elected representatives including Senator Garret Ahearn and Chairman of Tipperary/Cahir/Cashel Municipal District Cllr Declan Burgess.
Senator Ahearn said: “This announcement has been made possible by my colleague Minister Heather Humphreys, as part of

Our Rural Future and Town Centre First policies, to provide strategic capital funding for significant projects around the country.
“The funding has been provided for Tipperary Town for the regeneration of Dan Breen House and Tipperary Courthouse and Bridewell. The funding will redevelop two historic buildings to provide high quality education and training spaces for youths and adults. It will also provide key community services in the town centre.
“The project will increase access to further education and training while reducing town centre vacancy and dereliction.
“The unprecedented national funding of €164 million announced will revitalise towns and villages, addressing vacancy and dereliction, stimulating rural economies, and responding to community needs.
“This significant investment further ensures that Tipperary remains a vibrant place for families, tourists, and the entire community to enjoy.”

Cllr Declan Burgess said he was delighted with the announcement.
“This project is a key component on the plans for Tipperary Town’s regeneration and I am delighted to see this significant investment being made,” said Cllr Burgess.
Cllr Burgess said the project would increase access to further education and training while reducing town centre vacancy and dereliction.

“The reimagined space in Tipperary Town will act as a new Youth and Further Education and Training Centre in partnership with Youth Work Ireland Tipperary and Tipperary Education and Training Board, while the former courthouse will be transformed into a day service location for adults with intellectual disabilities in partnership with Moorehaven Centre.
“ I would like to thank all of the partners and everyone who contributed to the application, our own members, the elected members and the staff of Tipperary/Cahir/Cashel Municipal District who oversaw the development of the planning and design phases, along with South Tipperary Development Company who supported the business case under the LEADER programme.”
