Ye Vagabonds will perform at When Next We Meet in Clonmel
This June bank holiday weekend will see the grounds of Raheen House Hotel play exceptional host to some of Ireland’s most celebrated artists. Now in its third year, this intimate festival has steadily carved out a niche as a standout event on the Irish music festival calendar since its debut in 2022. Renowned for its cosy atmosphere and impeccable curation, When Next We Meet is preparing to deliver its most unforgettable experience yet.
Among an impressive line-up of household names such as Bell X1 and local artists like The Woof O, are Irelands top alternative folk artists.
On Saturday June 1st, under what we hope will be cloudless skies, award winning folk duo Ye Vagabonds will headlining the main stage, with their full band performance. Brothers Brían and Diarmuid Mac Gloinn are South East natives, who grew up in Carlow. The quickly became a staple of the live music and session scene in Ireland after moving to Dublin in 2012. Through chance meetings, international film attention and incredible musicianship, Ye Vagabonds have become an unstoppable act. They have opened for an eyewatering list of artists including Villagers, Lisa Hannigan, Phoebe Bridgers and boygenius across the UK and Europe. And now, they set sail for Clonmel. With a list of awards under their collective belts, Ye Vagabonds are an unmissable act on the doorstep of Clonmel this June 1st. Winning ‘Best Tradition Track’, ‘Best Group’ and ‘Best Album’ in the 2019 RTE Radio One Folk Awards, they have also won ‘Best Traditional Track’ and ‘Best Folk Group’ in 2021, with the ‘Best Album’ accolade in 2022. BBC Radio 2 also awarded the group ‘Best Traditional Track’ in their 2019 Folk Awards. Their 3 albums ‘Nine Waves’ (2022), ‘The Hare’s Lament’ (2019) and self titled debut ‘Ye Vagabonds’ (2017) feature traditional and original songs and tunes which honour tradition and the past while moving with the times. Last December, they featured on Phoebe Bridgers Christmas charity single, a cover of The Parting Glass. With a sound that is defined by close harmonies and influenced by 60’s folk revival with a contemporary and Irish traditional music flare, Ye Vagabonds is an act at the forefront of recent Irish Folk movement that alongside Lankum, Lisa O’Neill and John Francis Flynn, is taking the country – and beyond – by storm.
IN THE GAME
Susan O’Neill also performs on Saturday June 1st at When Next We Meet. To date, Susan might be known to most as the incredible collaborator and vocalist on ‘In The Game’ with Mick Flannery – a collaboration album that ended up being the biggest selling Irish independent record of 2021. Over recent years however, she has spent time honing her craft as a solo performer. A songwriter of hidden depths, with a timeless voice that is equal parts balm and blowtorch, she is audacity personified. A free spirit. A real performer. ‘In the Game’ saw Susan receive nominations for the Choice Music prize and the RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards for ‘Album of the Year’, ‘Female Folk Artist of the Year’ and take home ‘Best Original Folk Track’ award for song ‘Chain Reaction’. Susan was also shortlisted for the ‘Vanda and Young’ Award for her song ‘These Are the Days’. Her song ‘Now You See It’ from her EP of the same name won the 202 RTE Radio 1 ‘Best Original Folk Song’ of the year. She release a new single “Bright Eyes’ in recent weeks with an upcoming Irish tour in October and November in support of her upcoming album.
