Tipperary councillor lobbies for government grants scheme for traffic calming measures

A Fine Gael councillor is campaigning for a dedicated fund to be set up by the Department of Rural & Community Development to for financing traffic calming measures in rural villages.

Cloneen Cllr Mark Fitzgerald highlighted the need for a new funding scheme at Carrick Municipal District’s May meeting. He expressed his desire for the council to write to Minister Heather Humphreys requesting she set it up.

He said the District Engineer did his best to install traffic calming measures in villages when funds were available but unfortunately there was no specific pot of money for such measures.
