Almost €50,000 raised for Down Syndrome Tipperary in fundraiser

Abbott employees in Clonmel have raised over €48,000 to fund a new Sensory Garden Room for the Tipperary branch of Down Syndrome Ireland.

The organisation supports over 100 members with Down Syndrome, and their families, across Tipperary.

Abbott employees selected Down Syndrome Ireland as their charity of choice for 2023 and set a fundraising target of €35,000.

Theyheld fundraising events throughout the year and smashed their target by over €13,000.

The new all-weather Sensory Garden Room will host speech and language sessions at Down Syndrome Ireland’s Meitheal 21 centre in Thurles.

The new sensory room resembles a plant-filled garden, designed to stimulate visitors’ sense of sight, smell, touch, taste, and sound.

These spaces have proven beneficial to both children and adults with Sensory Processing Disorder.

“We are delighted to have raised these important funds and we hope that many members of Down Syndrome Tipperary will benefit from the new sensory garden room in Thurles,” commented Deirdre Mullins, Clonmel Senior Site Director, Abbott.

Cora Horgan, board member, Down Syndrome Tipperary said, “Thank you to Abbott from everyone at Meitheal 21 Down Syndrome Tipperary. We really appreciate all your support and fundraising. It means the world to us!”

Each year, employees across Abbott sites in Ireland vote to support fundraising projects that have a significant impact on local communities. Abbott employees in Clonmel have previously pledged support to Cuan Saor, Moorehaven and Le Cairde Day Centre.
