The South Eastern Mountain Rescue team had a busy Sunday assisting with the rescue of an injured female walker in the Comeragh Mountains and two young men who suffered injuries in a fall from a quadbike on a walking trail near Clogheen.
The team's first call out was received from An Garda Siochána just after 4pm to the walker who suffered an ankle injury above Coumshingaun lake in the Comeraghs. She was with a group of fellow hikers when she sustained the injury.
SEMRA PRO Liz Browne said 12 SEMRA team members took part in the rescue operation. The Coastguard Rescue 117 helicopter, diverted from a training exercise, to attend the scene and the walker was winched, with the assistance of a SEMRA member, into the helicopter and brought to Waterford Airport where she was transferred by ambulance to Waterford University Hospital.
The National Ambulance Service called out the mountain rescue team shortly after 11.30pm to assist with the rescue of two men, aged in their 20s, who fell from a quadbike on the Clogheen Loop trail in the lower slopes of the Knockmealdowns near Clogheen village.
About 12 SEMRA members also took part in the operation and were first to reach the two injured men followed shortly afterwards by two ambulances, Tipperary Fire Service and gardaí.
SEMRA said the forest track was in good condition so all emergency vehicles were able to travel to the casualties. Both men suffered minor injuries were taken by ambulance to Tipperary University Hospital as a precaution.
