A Four County Challenge will be this year’s major fundraising event for Cashel Lions Club.
On Saturday, October 5, Willie Fahey, DJ Horan and Eddie Morrissey plan to complete a 33km hike which will see them set foot in four counties and on two mountain ranges in the one day.
This will be the fifth hiking challenge organised by members of Cashel Lions Club.
Planning is at an advanced stage for the Four County Challenge which will commence near Clogheen, in the car park above Bay Lough, which is on the Tipperary/Waterford border.
The first stage of the challenge will involve walking along the slopes of Knocknalougha, Co Waterford.
Following the Blackwater Way westward, the group will cross back into Tipperary as they descend the western slopes of the Knockmealdown Mountains.
Before leaving the Knockmealdowns the route will bring them into Co Cork, where they will skirt around Knockaneagh, before the group head north and back into Tipperary a few kilometres west of Ballyporeen.
On the final stage of the trek the group will weave their way through a maze of country roads which will bring them to Skeheenarinky and the final climb which will take them across the Attycraan River in the Galtee Mountains, and into Co Limerick where the hike will finish in King’s Yard at Knocknagalty, Kilbehenny, Co Limerick.
Cashel Lions Club is appealing to the people of Cashel and surrounding areas to support this fundraiser as all funds raised over the next few weeks will be used to fund a range of Cashel Lions Club community projects and activities.
These include the Senior Citizens Christmas Party, the Senior Citizens Annual Holiday, and a Christmas Food Appeal, the purchase of a mini bus for the Cashel Day Care Centre and a range of other projects including providing financial assistance to individuals and families who may experience financial challenges during the year.
All members of Cashel Lions Club will be involved in raising funds over the next few weeks.
There will be a street collection on Friday, October 4, and local support will be appreciated.
Donations may also be made through an online fundraising page at www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/cashellionsclub4countychallenge.
Members of Cashel Lions Club will also be contacting local businesses to seek sponsorship for the Four County Challenge.
Each member of the club will also have a sponsorship card and will gladly accept sponsorship for this year’s challenge.
Cashel Lions Club has been serving the local Community since 1961 and this has only been possible due to the generous support of the people of Cashel and surrounding areas.
The support and goodwill of the local community for the Four County Challenge will allow Cashel Lions Club to continue to serve the community and enhance the range of projects and services it provides to the local community.
Please be as generous as you can and please contact any member of Cashel Lions Club if you require any further information on the Four County Challenge.
