Turning a very special milestone birthday Johnny Luby set out to help those in need, and he proceeded to raise a huge sum of money for a Tipperary Special Needs school in Cashel.
The presentation from the Golden resident, who is a popular sportsman and radio contributor, was made to the school earlier and was greeted with applause and celebration.
Online Councillor John O'Heney praised the efforts of Johnny Luby who held a sponsored birthday event to raise the precious funds: "I spent my happiest morning in years at my old-school this morning to attend Johnny Lubys Presentation of over €10,000 to the School from his birthday fundraising event.
"School Principal Ms. Lorraine Lowry spoke so well in her praise of Johnny's achievement. This money will be of great benefit to the School.
"Teacher Philly Ryan of Boherlahan fame, read out a wonderful poem he had written about Johnny, Seamus Hayes provided some great Tipperary songs throughout the presentation, while Paudie Coen had the birthday cake at the ready!
"Meeting all my old students and friends on staff brought back many fond memories. I still miss the place to this day. It is such a warm and caring environment.
"Well done again Johnny on your wonderful fundraising work for such a great cause," said Cllr O'Heney. It is a sentiment echoed across Tipperary.
