Dillon Bridge, Carrick-on-Suir

Tipperary County Council has appointed a consultant to carry out a feasibility study and design plan for the repurposing of the space under two of Dillon Bridge’s arches in Carrick-on-Suir.

And work is underway on preparing the plan for the land based bridge arches, Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District’s latest monthly meeting was informed by District Administrator Marie Cox.

The project is being funded by part of the €185,027 EU Just Transition Fund grant Tipperary County Council has secured for Carrick-on-Suir’s Riverside Regeneration Project.

The grant is also funding the creation of a masterplan and feasibility study for the redevelopment of the 2.7 acres former Goldcrop site on the North Quay.

Ms Cox’s report to district councillors outlined that e-tender documents are being prepared at the moment for the contract to devise this masterplan.

The Council purchased the derelict site from the Cork based Goldcrop company in 2022 for around €500,000 under the Derelict Sites Act by agreement with the company.

It had secured €400,000 funding towards the site’s purchase from the Government’s Town & Village Renewal Scheme’s Buildings Acquisitions Measure, which is targeted at the purchase and redevelopment of vacant and derelict sites.
