Cllr Máirín McGrath raised her concerns with housing officials at a recent council meeting in Tipperary town.

During the monthly Municipal District meeting held for Tipperary-Cahir-Cashel, concerns were raised by one councillor over the failings of the council to provide adequate homes for persons with disabilities.

Independent Cllr Máirín McGrath started by saying:  “As a housing authority, where we really are struggling is allocation of housing for people with disabilities.

"We’re failing in being able to purchase houses for people with disabilities. I have a long list of families who are waiting for a specially adapted house.

"It’s a difficult situation as it’s all coming out of the same budget as tenants in situ."

Housing officials responded that the council’s priority will be on housing first, the homeless and disability as the tenant in situ scheme will be reduced this year.
