Public submissions close today on a Part 8 planning consultation for the proposed demolition of 52 unfinished houses at Ballypadeen, on the outskirts of Cashel.
Tipperary County Council’s proposal follows a confidential mediated settlement agreed last year with the developer.
Under the terms of the agreement, the council’s insurers, Irish Public Bodies, will fund the demolition works, along with the removal of four metal containers and the installation of short fencing on either side of the site entrance.
The council has confirmed that the concrete pads beneath the houses and the piles of slig will remain in place, and that ownership of the land will stay with the developer.
Submissions to the consultation are free and must be lodged by 4pm.
The future of the site has drawn fresh local attention in recent days. Around 55 people attended a site visit on Saturday, where they met the developer Liam Campion and Deputy Mattie McGrath.
Councillors Mairin McGrath and Michael Brennan were also present. Alternatives to demolition were discussed, including completing the houses for long term residential use, a retirement village or tourist accommodation.
Councillors in the Tipperary Cahir Cashel Municipal District are due to consider the chief executive’s planning report in the coming weeks.
The council’s planning report states that demolition would improve views of the Rock of Cashel and conclude legal disputes that have been ongoing since 2007.
