A veterinarian from Tipperary has been named president of the Veterinary Council of Ireland.

Joseph Walsh, a native of Mullinavat and a partner in a four-person mixed veterinary practice in Carrick on Suir, has assumed the role following an uncontested election by council members at a recent VCI meeting.
He takes over leadership of the independent statutory body responsible for regulating veterinary medicine and veterinary nursing.
In addition to his work in private practice, Walsh serves as a veterinary officer for the Irish Horse Racing Board during spring and autumn point to points.
Commenting on his appointment, he described it as "an immense privilege to have been elected as president of the Veterinary Council of Ireland".
He added that he looks forward to continuing to collaborate with council colleagues, the registrar, and the executive team in the interests of public and animal health and welfare.
