RIP: Tributes paid to Tipperary man who is remembered as being ‘always the gentleman’

The death has occurred of John O’Toole, Grangemockler, Carrick-on-Suir, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

John was predeceased by his parents Martin and Stella, his sister Mary, and his godson Oliver. He will be deeply missed by his devoted wife Catherine and his sons Martin, Seanie, Ger and Pat.

He is also mourned by his brothers Ned and Matt, and his sister Breda, who resides in Brisbane, Australia.

He will be fondly remembered by his daughters-in-law Clare and Bernadette, his adored grandchildren Leslie, Lisa, Summer, Kyle and Éabha, and his great-granddaughter Sophia.

He is survived by his extended family, including nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and a wide circle of friends.

John will repose at Walsh's Funeral Home on Friday evening, March 27, from 8pm to 9pm. Requiem Mass will take place on Saturday, March 28, at St Patrick's Church Faugheen at 12.30pm, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Family flowers only are requested, with donations, if desired, to Dementia Society of Ireland. The family home is private at all times.

Tributes paid to John reflect the high regard in which he was held within the community.

One mourner said it was a privilege to have worked alongside him in Brett’s Mills, describing him as “always the gentleman.”

Others extended condolences to Catherine and the O’Toole family, remembering John as a “lovely man” and a proud supporter of Tipperary hurling.

Another tribute offered sincere sympathy to his son Ger and the wider family, while many messages echoed the sentiment that John was a kind and gentle presence who will be greatly missed.

May he rest in peace.
