Teachers throughout Tipperary joined the ASTI strike today in support of young teachers.
Teachers at the Presentation Secondary School were out in force to support the campaign for better treatment for young teachers.
“Nobody wants to go on strike but then nobody wants to see young teachers work very vew hours and being paid less than their colleagues” she said.
Jean Rogers said many of the young teachers had spent six years going to college and some had young families and mortgages to pay.
“Their peers have emigrated and so will the young teachers who decided to stay if their working conditions dont improve” she said.
“Something has to be done to improve the way young teachers are being treated or they will be lost” she said.
Marie McCarthy said she was opposed to the three tier system that had now been created.
“It is so unfair and it just has to be tackled now” she said.
