Five past pupils at the Presentation Thurles Secondary School are to be honoured at national ceremonies for their academic achievements.
The students were selected for scholarships, bursaries and entrance awards to four universities following their exceptional exam results in their Leaving Certificate last June.
Among those to receive an award was UCC Law student Roisín Ryan from Killinan, Thurles who was presented with an All-Ireland 3rd Level Scholarship award last Saturday in the University Concert Hall, Limerick. This award is kindly donated by JP McManus in recognition of outstanding academic excellence. Roisín, who attended the ceremony with her parents Jim and Theresa and Presentation principal Marie Collins, was presented with her bursary at the ceremony by special guest Paul O'Connell and will now receive €6,750 for every year of her studies.
Meanwhile Maggie Delahunty from Cullahill, Co. Loais and Louise McCormack from Tipperary Town were both selected to receive a Trinity College Entrance Exhibition Award in recognition of their high performance in the Leaving Certificate. Maggie from Cullahill Co. Laois is now studying Pharmacy in UCC while Louise is studying for a degree in Law.
First year University of Limerick student Courtney Conroy from Roscrea was also presented with a “Women in Engineering Bursary” for her outstanding points obtained in her Leaving Cert exams. This bursary of €500 is funded by the University of Limerick and awarded to one female student in up to eight engineering degree programmes obtaining the highest points score at CAO entry. Courtney, whose parents are Martina and Kevin, is now enrolled in her first year of an engineering degree programme.
And finally UCC Psychology student Laura Lanigan from Gortnahoe was the worthy recipient of a Quercus Entrance Scholarship based on her great Leaving Certificate results.
