Plans for new €150,000 Fethard park on public display

Tipperary Co. Council is seeking the public's views on its design for a new €150,000 public park in Fethard, which it plans to develop next year. 

The proposed East Gate Public Park is to be located on a 0.2 hectacres site at Burke Street that is currently derelict. There is a significant slope on the site and a portion of the Medieval town walls runs along the western boundary. 

The Co. Council wants to develop a park on this site to provide a new tourism and local amenity in the town and provide public access to a proposed walking trail around Fethard's ancient walls. An extra benefit will be that the park will provide pedestrian access between Burke Street and Barrack Street.

It's proposed to demolish the facades of two derelict terraced houses on Burke Street to facilitate the creation of the park.  There will be park entrance gates at both Burke Street and Barrack Street and conservation works carried out on the town wall.  

Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District Administrator Martin Nolan said the new park will involve an investment of about €150,000 and the Council has obtained funding for the project from the Town & Village Renewal Scheme. 

The Council is currently in the process of securing Part 8 planning permission for the new park and as part of that process is has put the plans on public display for inspection at Tipperary Co. Council's Civic Offices in Clonmel and the Tholsel in Fethard and invited the public to lodge written submissions or observations. 

The plans will remain on show at these locations until Friday, December 22. They can also be viewed on the Council's website. 

The Council says members of the public can lodge  submissions or observations on the proposed park to Carrick Municipal District Administrator Martin Nolan at the Co. Council's Civic Offices at New Street in Carrick-on-Suir no later than 4.30pm on Tuesday, January 16.
