Tipperary school marks Autism Awareness Day

The eleventh annual World Autism Awareness Day was April 2, 2018. Scoil Ruáin, Killenaule,  celebrated Autism Awareness Day on Thursday 22nd March before students broke for their Easter holidays.

Staff were encouraged to wear blue clothing to work in order to mark this worldwide awareness initiative.

All first year students were given a tour around the school’s ASD unit Coisceim and were shown a short DVD entitled “Amazing Things Happens” to provide information on Autism.

They were then provided with refreshments before they were each handed a blue balloon. The balloons were then released simultaneously to mark this day.

On the 2nd April it hundreds of thousands of landmarks, buildings, homes and communities around the world were coloured light blue in recognition of people living with autism. Autism-friendly events and educational activities take place all month to increase understanding and acceptance and foster worldwide support.
