A roundabout is one of the options that will be examined for a dangerous road junction in Clonmel
A consultant is to examine a number of options, including a roundabout, for the junction of Heywood Road and the bypass road in Clonmel, it was announced at a meeting of Clonmel Borough District.
District Mayor Richie Molloy said there had been another serious accident at this very busy intersection in recent months.
Residents in the area were very concerned about the amount of traffic accidents in what was a built-up residential area.
Cllr. Siobhan Ambrose said they had been told before that it would cost €1 million for a roundabout, which to her sounded extraordinary.
Cllr. Pat English said the problems at this junction were being discussed for the past fifteen years.
It was raised every time candidates went around knocking on doors before an election and it was getting embarrassing at this stage, he said.
The meeting was told that the consultant's assessment would be completed in the coming months.
