Election candidate Garret Ahearn and Cllr Michael Murphy working on the Brexit meeting planned for Clonmel next Monday.
Fine Gael General Election Candidate Garret Ahearn along with Councillor Michael Murphy will host a Brexit meeting with Tánaiste Simon Coveney in the Minella Hotel, Clonmel next Monday night, 24th September at 7:30pm.
Brexit will bring changes and challenges across all sectors of Tipperary from small to medium size businesses, Multinationals and Agriculture. This is an open invitation to all those sectors that are planning and preparing for Brexit.
Mr Ahearn said – “Brexit has long been one of the most talked-about subjects in Ireland. We are now in the final stage of negotiations and on 29 March 2019 the UK will formally leave the EU.
“It is important that businesses in Tipperary plan and prepare for Brexit and the change it will bring. Ireland’s negotiating team face a crucial few months as we head towards the deadline for agreeing a Brexit deal with the UK. This is a fantastic opportunity for people in Tipperary to hear from the person leading that team and air your concerns and questions”.
Cllr Michael Murphy, who is also head of the Irish Delegation on the EU Committee of the Regions, said – "Brexit poses an unprecedented economic, social, political and diplomatic challenge for Ireland. It's so important that we prepare, that we do all we can to minimise the impact of Brexit.
“Monday's seminar is about creating further awareness around the challenges, providing information on the supports available at local and national level and of course hearing from the Minister himself who is at the very heart of the negotiations."
The Government has put in place a number of supports to help businesses, of all shapes and sizes and across all sectors of the economy, to prepare for Brexit.
Dedicated measures were announced in Budget 2018 and over €450m have already been allocated in business supports, including a €300m Brexit Loan Scheme for Business and a €25m Brexit Response Loan Scheme for the agri-food sector.
Tánaiste Simon Coveney stated that preparing for Brexit is a priority in the Action Plan for Jobs 2018.
“We have established a ‘Rainy Day Fund’ to help manage any economic shocks, and revised our enterprise policy Enterprise 2025 Renewed. We are opening 13 new diplomatic missions as part of Global Ireland 2025, which will contribute to helping our exporters find new markets.
“As well as addressing the challenge of Brexit, our trade and investment strategy Ireland Connected has at its core our ongoing commitment to the EU and access to a Single Market of 27 Member States with 450 million people post Brexit, as well as access to a further 53 markets under EU Free Trade Agreements.”
The Meeting takes place next Monday night 24th September at 7:30pm in the Minella Hotel Clonmel and all are very welcome. Further information for businesses and citizens who are concerned about Brexit is always available and updated at dfa.ie/brexit.
