Tipperary Co. Council played a key role yesterday (Tuesday) in securing businessman Peter Casey a place in the presidential election race.
The Council was one of four who nominated him to contest the election. He was backed by 13 councillors at a special meeting of the local authority in Nenagh yesterday afternoon.
He also received the nomination of Limerick, Clare and Kerry Co. Councils yesterday. The Derry-born businessman, who founded a US recruitment firm, required the nomination of four local authorities to qualify as a candidate for the race. He is the third former Dragons' Den judge to become a candidate in the election.
Journalist Gemma O'Doherty received the votes of eight councillors at the Tipperary Co. Council meeting.
