London Bridge terrorist visited Clonmel, Irish woman claims in television documentary

Borough Market

Borough Market in London which, along with nearby London Bridge, was the scene of a terrorist attack in June of last year, when eight innocent people were killed

An Irish woman has claimed that she and the leader of the terror attack on London Bridge last year visited other Islamic extremists in Clonmel, Limerick and Cavan between 2015 and 2016.

The woman makes her claim in the television documentary 'Ireland's Jihadis', which will be shown on Virgin Media One at 10pm tomorrow night, Wednesday.

The woman, whose identity hasn't been revealed, alleges that she was visited on several occasions by Khuram Butt, the leader of the terror attack on London Bridge on June 3, 2017, which claimed the lives of eight innocent people.

However, in the documentary, Garda sources state that they don't believe that Khuram Butt ever visited Ireland.

'Aaliyah' (not her real name) admits to having been radicalised after she converted to Islam when she moved to the UK.

She claims that she met Khuram Butt through her then boyfriend, a Pakistani-born British citizen who is suspected of operating a number of internet fraud rackets that targeted Irish companies to raise funds for Isil.

"I would have altogether met Khuram Butt about 30 or 40 times", she says.

"We went to Limerick. We went to Cavan together as well. We would have went down to Clonmel. He would have wanted to go to visit people.

"In Clonmel they would have had a close group of friends", she states in the documentary.

'Aaliyah' also claims that there are up to 150 Islamic extremists living in Ireland.

However Assistant Commissioner Michael O'Sullivan, the head of the Garda security and intelligence section, says that "no more than 30 individuals" connected to Isil are being actively monitored.

"That depends on their activity and interest to us and the level of threat they pose to the security of the state", he said.

Khuram Butt and his two fellow terrorists were in a van that was deliberately driven into pedestrians on London Bridge before crashing on the south bank of the River Thames.

They then ran to the nearby Borough Market area and began stabbing people in and around restaurants and pubs.

All three were later shot dead by police.
