There are up to ten troops from South Tipperary stranded  in Syria  whose homecominghas  has been delayed by about two weeks.

The troops, due home last Wednesday, may not arrive home now until October 16th.

Speaking in the Dail today Deputy Mattie McGrath said the situation was causing great distress  to the families of the troops involved.

He said  the delay was an appalling situation and he slammed "a disgraceful blunder" which he said was responsible for the delay in bringing home the troops who had served their six month term of duuty and should have arrived home yesterday.

"They want to be at home with their families" insisted Deputy McGrath.

Tanaiste Simon Coveney said "we are fixing it  and they will be home albeit two weeks after they should have  been home ".It was the complexity of the environment  involved that was responsible for the delay.
