Traffic calming sought for dangerous road near Clonmel school

Speeding traffic

A request for traffic calming on the Clonmel to Cahir N24 road at the entrance to Rathkeevin national school is to be raised again with the safety inspector with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).

Cllr. Siobhan Ambrose told a meeting of Clonmel Borough District Council that the speed limit at this stretch of road needed to be reduced, but this request had already been refused by TII.

It was a particularly dangerous area. As well as the national school there were also houses, a nursing home and a pre-school in that area.

Cllr. Ambrose said that traffic calming was needed, similar to that provided at Croagh, Co. Limerick, on the N21.

In a report to the meeting District Engineer Eamon Lonergan said that the issue had been referred to the County Council's Road Design Section to raise again with the TII safety inspector.
