The group who gathered at the War Memorial in Cahir on Sunday last to honour Remembrance Sunday.
Cahir Social and Historical Society held its annual Remembrance Sunday ceremony at the War Memorial last Sunday morning. We were joined this year by members of the 18 Foot and Royal Irish Regiment Association and Post 24, Irish United Nations Veterans from Clonmel.
Our local expert on all things World War I, Paul Buckley, opened the ceremony by telling the life stories of two of the names on the War Memorial, Daniel Mara and Charles Moulson.
This was followed by Arthur Carter laying a laurel wreath on behalf of the Society and Retired Sergeant-Major Seán Cosgrave laying a wreath on behalf of the 18 Foot and Royal Irish Regiment Association. PJ O’Meara gave a brief reflection before a minute’s silence was held.
This was followed by a vintage performance of The Last Post by Paddy Roche.
The ceremony ended with a stirring rendition of Abide With Me.
