An injured hiker was rescued from the Coumshingaun Lake area of the Comeragh Mountains yesterday (Sunday) afternoon.
The woman suffered a lower leg injury in a fall, according to the South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association, which received a call out from An Garda Síochána to the rescue mission at 13.05pm yesterday.
“The walker was with friends who provided initial support until help arrived. First to arrive at the casualty site around 14.10am was a SEMRA volunteer and Garda Mark Gavin,” said a SEMRA spokesman.
“Initial treatment was provided as more SEMRA members arrived on scene with medical equipment and a stretcher.
“The casualty was made comfortable and transferred onto a stretcher. SEMRA members then performed a stretcher carry out over rocky terrain, down off the mountain to Kilclooney Woods.
He continued: “The casualty was then transferred to waiting National Ambulance Service (NAS) staff. All members were down off the hill by 16.18. We wish the casualty a speedy recovery. Well done to all the agencies involved.”
The Long Way Round fundraising walk in aid of the South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association takes place this Saturday, November 26. It's a 15km walk or run around the Comeragh Mountains at night. Runners start at 5pm while walkers in groups will leave from 6.30pm.
All funds raised will go towards financing the South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association's operational costs, training and equipment. For further information check out SEMRA's Facebook page and website: www.semra.ie
