Carrick Davins GAA Club members and supporters celebrated the club’s 100th birthday in style at a social last Saturday night.

The Davins Centenary Social was enjoyed by 140 people in the Carraig Hotel in Carrick-on-Suir.
Tipperary GAA County Board chairman Joe Kennedy, Michael Bourke, Tipperary’s delegate to the GAA Central Council and

Sean Nugent, the county’s Munster GAA Council delegate were among the attendance.

Three Davins Club members were presented with Lifetime Achievement awards in recognition of their massive contribution to the running of the club.

Husband and wife Billy and Elizabeth Mackey and Liam Dwyer were presented with crystal bowls in gratitude for their volunteer work for the club.

Billy Mackey won a Munster Senior Club hurling medal with the Davins in the 1960s and has served as a club administrator for more than 40 years. He was club treasurer for many years and is now co-treasurer. He also co-ordinates the Davins County Board draw and runs the club’s Juvenile Lotto draw.

His wife Elizabeth has also worked tirelessly for the club for over 40 years and serves with Billy as co-treasurer.

Liam Dwyer was honoured for his trojan work as a juvenile teams coach and the many roles he served on club committees including as chairman of juvenile players.

Meanwhile, Bobby Fitzgerald and Joe Drohan were made honorary lifetime members of the Davins Club for their huge contribution to the club.

The design for a centenary plaque listing the club’s founding members was on display at the social. It will be unveiled at the Davins Club before the end of the year.

Davins Club secretary Niall Ryan said it was a marvellous night and everyone enjoyed the meal and dancing afterwards to the music of Super Soul.

He said the Carraig Hotel staff were fantastic and the food was “world class”. It was great for the club’s members and supporters to enjoy an occasion like this again after the Covid-19 pandemic, Mr Ryan added.
