The Right Reverend Adrian Wilkinson
Sunday, December 4 will be a day of celebration at the Cathedral Church of St John the Baptist, Cashel, as the new Church of Ireland Bishop of Cashel, Ferns & Ossory, the Right Reverend Adrian Wilkinson, is enthroned there.
The special service will take place at 3.30 pm.
The enthronement of the new bishop will formally begin his ministry in the diocese of Leighlin and the service will be conducted by the Dean of Cashel, The Very Reverend James Mulhall in the presence of county Tipperary civic and religious dignitaries.
An enthronement ceremony involves the new bishop taking his seat in the cathedral that he has been appointed bishop and pastor of. As per tradition he will knock three times on the cathedral door before being admitted and welcomed by the Dean. He will then be introduced to his clergy and congregation before being installed in his seat.
Bishop Wilkinson has already been enthroned Bishop of Waterford and of Leighlin and over the next three months enthronement ceremonies will also take place in the three other dioceses in the United Diocese – Lismore, Ferns and Kilkenny, totalling six cathedrals in all.
ELECTED
He was elected Bishop of Cashel, Ferns & Ossory in June this year and succeeds the Right Reverend Michael Burrows who has translated (moved) to become the Bishop of Tuam, Limerick and Killaloe.
Adrian Wilkinson was previously Archdeacon of Cork, Cloyne and Ross.
