Elected representatives have raised concerns about the safety of transport services for refugees staying in Dundrum House Hotel
Concern is mounting over the safety of refugees and the provisions made for them to avail of bus services in Dundrum.
A meeting of Tipperary/Cashel/Cahir Municipal District heard elected representatives raise the issue which concerns refugees staying at Dundrum House Hotel.
Cllr Roger Kennedy called on officials to liaise with Transport for Ireland in relation to the pick up point at Convent Cross for route 332 and seek finance from the Government for a safe bus stop and the provision of a safe walkway from the Convent Cross to the Rectory, closer to the village.
In response to the motion tabled by Cllr Kennedy, officials said they would liaise with TFI.
Cllr Kennedy said there were 130 refugees staying at the hotel and that figure was due to more than double before Christmas.
Cllr Kennedy said the pick up point was unsafe for both normal Bus Éireann services on the route between Cashel and Limerick and also for school busses picking up children at Convent Cross.
URGENT
“There are different busses picking up children from school at Convent Cross and there is no designated place for them to stop. It is not safe and something has to be urgently done,” said Cllr Kennedy.
Cllr Kennedy said the children staying at Dundrum House were attending a number of different schools in the area.
“As it stands it is very dangerous and I am concerned that the situation is going to become even more dangerous as the number of refugees staying at Dundrum House Hotel is going to increase significantly,” said Cllr Kennedy.
