Assault and crimes against the person are up across Tipperary

Assault and crimes against the person are up across Tipperary

Crimes against the person and assaults have increased across the county, according to Chief Superintendent Colm O’Sullivan’s December report.

The figures presented at last week’s sitting of the Tipperary Joint Policing Committee showed crimes against the person are up by a fifth in the year to date.

Crimes against the person include murder, murder threats, assault, harassment, child abandonment, neglect, and abuse.

Cahir had the highest increase, up 58%, followed by Thurles at 30%

Tipperary Town was the only area with a deduction, down 9%.

Nenagh was reported as having a 28% increase, and Clonmel was up 7%. Detentions were down 5% overall.

ASSAULT

Assault reports were up 18% Assault-causing harm incidents increased by 43%

Minor assaults were up 7% across the county. Cahir again reported the highest increase in assault, up 67%, with Tipperary Town down 22%

Nenagh had an increase of 39% and Thurles 32%

Assault incidents in Clonmel were up 1%Assault detections were down 2% overall.
