Cillian Dunne will be honoured by Tipperary United Sports Panel at awards ceremony

Cillian Dunne is hoping to qualify for this year’s World Para Athletics Championship finals in Paris and the Paris Paralympics in 2024

Cillian Dunne will be presented with the Special Achievement Award at the Annerville awards, sponsored by Bulmers, at the Talbot Hotel Clonmel next Saturday night, January 21.

These awards are presented each year to the Tipperary amateur sports stars of the year.

Cillian returned home to Kilbarron in north Tipperary following an impressive performance at the International World Amputee Sports Games (IWAS) in Portugal at the end of November.

The T54 wheelchair racer came home the proud holder of three bronze medals, which were secured in all three of his track events - the 5,000 metres, 400 metres and 100 metres.

Cillian travelled as part of Irish Wheelchair Association’s Team Ireland, alongside eight other team mates from across the country to compete in the games, which were hosted in Vila Real de Santo Antonio in the Portuguese Algarve.

The team returned to Dublin with one new Irish record, nine medals (a silver and eight bronze) and seven Personal Bests.

Cillian had his first taste of wheelchair racing in 2012, and a love affair was born. Since then, the Tipperary athlete’s performances have continued in the ascendancy, and he is currently the holder of a number of Irish records in the sport.

The current holder of three junior world titles, Cillian is poised to make a real mark on the senior stage, with his sights firmly set on qualifying for this year’s World Para Athletics Championship finals in Paris and the Paris Paralympics in 2024.
