These two pupils at Cloneen National School, who along with all the other pupils, were delighted to welcome their families to the school for this year’s Grandparents’ Day.
Grandparents’ Day Celebrations at Cloneen NS
Our recent Grandparents’ Day in Cloneen National School was a wonderful occasion for our pupils, school and community. Relatives travelled from far and near to attend and to be part of our special day. The day began with a special Grandparents’ Day Mass in Cloneen Church, celebrated by Fr. Lambe PP. The children sang hymns and read prayers, and the readings were read by a grandparent of children in our school.
After the Mass, the celebrations continued back at the school where tea and cakes were served by members of our very active Parents’ Association, and parents and grandparents enjoyed chatting and looking around our school, getting to admire the work of their children in classrooms and corridors and enjoying views of beautiful Slievenamon behind our school.
Some of our children gave their grandparents a guided tour of our polytunnel, and it was wonderful to see the pride the children took in the produce they are growing.
Parents and Grandparents enjoyed looking at the photos from over the years at Cloneen NS on the school walls, looking at school memorabilia and those who attended our school reminisced on the happy times that they had here. They shared stories of their days at school with the children and many were amazed by the changes in the school since their time.
The children were immensely proud to show their extended families their colourful classrooms and school yard.
Following this, the children made St. Brigid’s Day crosses and enjoyed hearing stories about Kildare’s famous saint. Overall, it was a wonderful occasion and we look forward to many more days like this in our school. A huge thank you to all who came along, to all who brought cakes and treats and to all who helped out on the day.
