Nenagh gets ready to celebrate St Patrick's Day with festival of music and fun

Tom Bán tells the story of St Patrick in Nenagh Castle as part of this year’s festivities in the town, which runs until Friday

Nenagh is celebrating St Patrick in style this year with an expanded festival going on throughout the town.

The festival kicked off this Monday, with local native and RTE presenter Tom Bán telling the story of St Patrick in Nenagh Castle to over 160 primary school children from Gaelscoil Aonach Urmhumhan, St Mary’s Primary School Nenagh, St Mary’s National School and Carrig National School.

The storytelling continues in the castle until this Thursday.

In association with Nenagh’s own A Team, an Autism friendly youth disco will be held in Gaelscoil Aonach Urmhumhan specifically for members of The A Team Youth Club on Thursday.

The A-Team is a social club for the autistic community which aims to provide a safe space to nurture self-esteem and promote awareness through appropriate events.

For the big day itself on Friday, there are plenty of activities planned for around the town, with the St Patrick’s Day Express beginning its travels at 1pm at Nenagh Tourist Office and continuing throughout the day. People are being invited onboard Nenagh’s favourite mode of transports for a fun filled journey through the streets of Nenagh. The train is being run in association with Nenagh Chamber and Ballycommon Sponsored Ride 2023.

Nenagh and Environs Tidy Towns, in association with Nenagh Live, will present the St Patrick’s All Ages Busking Competition with €300 in prizes. Buskers can just turn up and play but be sure to register at Nenagh Tourist Office.

The main showcase will again be at the courthouse where a concert and festival market will run throughout the afternoon.

Among the artists lined up are JP O Meara’s Video Beat on the Street, Keith Woodgate - The Party King, Brendan Shine, Musical Theatre Academy Nenagh, Callanan MacLoone O’Meara Academy of Irish Dance, Conor Fahy, Savage Cabbage, The Glen Campbell Story, Michelle Hennessy School of Music, Nenagh Ormond Brass Band, Bubba Shakespeare, Tex Deegan Music, Cleo Griffin, James McKelvey, Keelan McGrath Music and Friends, Emma Fitzgerald,Tipperary Fire & Rescue Service, Irish Red Cross Nenagh Branch, and much more.

The festival is being run in conjunction with Tipperary County Council.
