Mid Tipperary U15B Football Championship Final
Moyne Templetuohy 4-10
Upperchurch Drombane 1-5
Two goals in six minutes in the first half set Moyne Templetuohy up for victory over Upperchurch Drombane in the Colaiste Eile Mid U15B football final at The Ragg on Sunday last. They will next face Roscrea in the county semi-final.
Though they had lost to Upperchurch in the round-robin series of the championship, there was no question as to the superiority of the winners in this encounter and on this form they would have made a fair old bid for honours in the A championship.
Moyne set out their stall early on, Mark Campion bagging their first goal after just five minutes for a 1-2 to 0-0 lead. They might have had another goal but Upperchurch goalie Jack Harrington foiled Rogan Lyons with a fine stop.
The winners were not to be denied however and in the 11th minute Chris Dunne, the top performer on the day, used his height and strength to good advantage to notch their second. Despite the best efforts of the impressive Philip O’Dwyer, Upperchurch were in trouble as they trailed 0-3 to 2-5 at the interval.
It got worse on resuming as Chris Dunne had his second goal and Denis Brolan pointed for Moyne, all inside three minutes.
Philip O'Dwyer netted for Upperchurch after good work by Sean Griffin in the 36th minute to raise their hopes of a comeback but seven minutes later Dunne again netted for Moyne and now there was no way back for The Church despite battling bravely to the finish and having the final score of the game, a point by James Woodlock.
This is an excellent Moyne-Templetuohy team. They are strong in the key-positions and exploited their physical advantage to good effect.
County honours are definitely within their compass. Their big boys starred, no more so than Chris Dunne but Leo Cleere, Conor Campion, Jack Reddan, Jack Guilfoyle, Mark Campion and Paddy Ely also had big games.
No one could question the commitment of the Upperchurch boys but they did not have the same options as their opponents who looked the more balanced outfit right through the field.
Philip O'Dwyer was their most impressive player and looks a real prospect for the future, but Sean Griffin, James Woodlock, Oisin Kerwick and goalkeeper Jack Harrington gave it everything.
