Huge crowd expected in Thurles for the double header of hurling finals

Semple Stadium

Semple Stadium - the jewel in the Tipperary crown

Those travelling to Thurles today are advised to allow for longer than usual delays in and around the town due to the minor and Under 20 hurling finals which take place in FBD Semple Stadium this afternoon.

The minor game gets underway at 1pm with Galway and Clare taking to the field for an eagerly awaited encounter. Galway, who entered and won the Leinster championship this year, are favourites against a dogged Clare side that won the Munster title after beating Cork in the provincial final.

The Under 20 final features a number of up and coming stars such as Adam Screeney who was a star minor last year and has established himself as one to watch today for Offaly. The favourites - Cork - go into the game boasting senior panelists Ben Cunningham and Eoin Downey, two of the best young players in the country.

A large crowd is expected to be travelling to the two red hot game so the advice is to use designated car parks and travel early as delays are expected in and around the town.
