Brigid Browne just after the marathon run finished
The Cork City Marathon took place in Cork city on Sunday last with a huge field and turnout supporting the runners in what were difficult and unusual running conditions of temperatures nearing 26 degrees celcius.
Tipperary athletes made the trek Leeside for the event and one of the competitors was Brigid Browne who trains in west Tipperary and is a member of Dundrum Athletic Club.
There was great joy as the west Tipperary athlete made it over the finishing line on Patrick Street to a rapturous Cork welcome.
The marathon is an official 42.195km (26 miles and 385 yards) marathon course and serves as a Boston qualifier.
It is overall, a fast and flat course through the city and surrounds. Polish marathon runner Pawel Kosek was the overall winner of the marathon and finished at a time of 2:28:24 while Georgie Bruinvels from the UK passed the finishing line in 2:42:15.
