Tipperary woman conquers the field in Waterford Viking Marathon

Linda Grogan, Dundrum AC, celebrates her Waterford Viking Marathon win on Sunday last

It has been a very busy week or so for Dundrum athletes, senior and juvenile, with plenty of success and great participation by everyone.

GROGAN WINS VIKING MARATHON
The Waterford Viking Marathon was held on Sunday last, along with the half and quarter distances. Linda Grogan had an outstanding run to win on what is a challenging marathon course in 3:04:27. Linda is a natural at long distance running and it’s great to see her get a fantastic win like this.

RYAN AND FOGARTY WIN
The Born to Run 5k and 10k was held in Tralee on Sunday last. We had two club athletes competing. Philip O’Dwyer won the 5k race in 18:40 and Catherine Fogarty won the 10k race in 43:10. It was great running by both in the Kingdom.

DUBLIN GRADED MEET
A Dublin Graded Meet track and field event was held on Wednesday, June 21 in Morton Stadium, Santry, Dublin. Eamonn Morrissey competed in the 5,000m and placed fifth in 15:53. It was great running by Eamonn.

DAVE FOGARTY 4 MILE
The Dave Fogarty 4 Mile was held on Thursday last in Thurles and hosted by Thurles Crokes AC. We had seven club athletes competing. First home for the club and just back from her holidays was 15th, Dymphna Ryan 23:50 who was first woman. Dymphna was presented with a perpetual cup in memory of Gillian Ryan. Next, we had 21st, Michael Ryan 24:24, 31st Michael Moore 25:57 who was first Over 60, 40th Tony Delaney 27:28, 52nd Shane White 28:38, 56th John Barry 29:09 and 63rd Declan Hogan 31:05.

MOYLUSSA 10K
The Moylussa 10.10k race was held in Killaloe, county Clare on Sunday last. Gerry O’Neill took on his first mountain/terrain race. It was a mix of forest and mountain running and he placed 13th in 1:10:05. Well done on your first trail race.

GALTEE CHALLENGE 18K
The Galtee Challenge 18k was held on Saturday last. We had three club athletes taking part - Christina Fryday, Patricia Moloney and Caroline Dawdry. It was a tough day for the event with strong wind, rain and fog.
It’s great to see club members getting involved in different types of challenges.

NATIONAL LEAGUE TRACK AND FIELD
The National League Track and Field has returned. This year it is either county or club divisions. Tipperary women are competing as a county and club member Dymphna Ryan is part of the team. The qualifiers were held on Sunday last in Morton Stadium, Santry, Dublin. Dymphna competed in the 1,500m and won in 4:47.13.
The Tipperary team won on the day and were seven points clear of second. The finals will be held in August in Tullamore, county Offaly.
