The importance of biodiversity was discussed on a recent trip to Wicklow
Summer time is often a time of exploration and discovering new things as people from farming backgrounds get some time to learn and reflect in a new environment and so it was for the North Tipperary IFA Farm Family committee who travelled on a recent excursion where they visited the beautiful the Avondale House and Forest Park situated in county Wicklow.
Margaret Mounsey, the North Tipperary IFA Farm Family chairperson, made the journey and speaking about it afterwards said "It was a great opportunity to enjoy two things inherent to us in Ireland - nature and talking".
The weather for the occasion was suitably fine and it added greatly to beautiful surroundings for an educational day where the chairperson discussed the benefits of walking outdoors to the overall health of individuals.
The benefits are manifold and the positive aspects of walking to physical and mental health is proved by scientists. Wellbeing is one valued highly and both nature and talking work wonders for many people.
There was also a good discussion focused on restoring biodiversity to a land depleted over time and the benefits to all of enhancing the range of plant and animal life in an area.
Also discussed was the role that forestry can play in combating climate change as well as enhancing biodiversity in the country where possible.
