The Tipperary festival brought the crowds this afternoon
The Tipperary Racing Festival began in earnest today with good crowds out for the day that was overcast at times and had the odd shower but the sun did come out too.
The excitement was high around the Limerick Junction venue with quality jumps racing on show.
The going was yielding to good in places today in Tipperary where the Tipperary Town Plate Handicap Chase with prize money of €16,000 was won by Good as Hell who stayed on well to win at 3/1 for jockey Brian Hayes.
The Philip Fenton trained bay mare finished ahead of the John F Gleeson trained Jack Holiday which finished at 5/1 while Mica Malpic was third at 7/1.
The Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Chase got underway after that and King Ferdinand was the first home of a strong field by a neck.
The Eugene M O Sullivan trained horse made it to the finish line at 11/2.
Room to roam, trained by John McConnell, was second for the Rockview Racing syndicate at 14/1 and Shantou Sisu was third at 14/1.
The Packie Downey Memorial got underway just after 4pm when Railway Hurricane at a price of 7/2 romped home while Mr Saxobeat, the 11/4 favourite, was second and Hamundarson was third at 11/1.
The festival continues tomorrow while Tipperary Racecourse's Fitzgerald's Woodlands House Hotel & Spa Ladies Day is taking place on Thursday, the third day of the Racing Festival.
