Mixed bag of weather
It was a mixed bag this week that promised much and ended in a deluge that had Mikey Walsh reaching for his mothballed schematics for a serviceable ark. Word is work is still underway in that department and that everyone is being particularly friendly to Mickey at the minute!
In the heel of the hunt, and with a heavy heart, Captain’s Weekend and Lady Captain’s Day had to be postponed due to weather - as also did the planned Lady’s Open Day scheduled for 18 July.
It’s so frustrating when something like this happens and so much hard work goes into the preparations so it was just a shame. However, hopefully the fact that it rained throughout St Swithin’s Day is not a portent of what is in store weather wise for the next 40 days, and both events can be re-scheduled shortly.
Despite the somewhat inclement conditions, Members and Visitors did manage to get in some decent golf in the earlier part of the week.

Vale Oil Open Qualifiers
Starting with the Men’s Vale Oil Open Qualifiers on 7 July, Tom McSharry headed the field on 38 points, with Michael John O’Donnell in 2nd on 37 points and Davy Williams in 3rd on 37 points.

Weekend Singles
In the Men’s Weekend Singles Competition held Saturday and Sunday 8 and 9 July, John O’Sullivan scored a fabulous 44 to come 1st, with Kelvin Ryan no slouch on 42 for 2bd place and William Brooks a close 3rd on the same points after a countback.

Monday Mixed Scramble
Monday’s Mixed Scramble saw an impressive turnout despite the miserable weather - a testament to its popularity. John Doyle, Maria Power and Margaret Comerford came 1st with a nett score of 38.2. Pat Johnson, Willie McGarry and John O’Sullivan came 2nd on 36.5 and Herbie Buck, Josephine Murphy and Marie Hologan came 3rd on 37 points.

Ladies results
In our Ladies Sunday/Tuesday 18 Hole Stableford Competition, Pauline Lucey continued her winning ways by coming in 1st on 39 points, with Marie Holohan in 2nd on 38 points.
Tuesday’s 9 Hole Stableford was won by Patricia Costello on 19 points.

SENIORS
Wednesday’s Senior Competition started with a presentation to Brendan Clancy, who had scored a hole in one on the 18th in the previous week’s competition. Despite best efforts to photograph him the blushing Brendan slipped away modestly with his prize
In the game proper, 12 teams played a Champagne Scramble, laughing in the face of the weather Gods!
Team 9 took top spot with 104 points - with 55 on the Back 9 - the team comprising Jim O’Brien, Eddie Daly and Eamon Power.
In 2nd place was Team 2 - also with 104 points but with 49 on the Back 9. The team comprised Vincent Phelan, Brendan Clancy and Colm Butler.
Third place was taken by Team 12 with 98 points - Ciaran Bolton, Tom Ryan and John Dowling.

Ladies Thursday Scramble
Our competitive golf finished up on Thursday, with the Lady’s Thursday’s 12 Hole Scramble.
The Competition was won by Josephine Murphy, Mary Britton and Mary Fitzpatrick with a combined score of 49.6.
