The Harty Cup gets underway in October
The draws for the group stages of the TUS Munster GAA Post Primary Schools Under 19 A Hurling (Dr. Harty Cup) and Football (Corn Uí Mhuirí) competitions took place on Thursday August 17th.
Reigning champions Cashel CS are the seeds in Group F, where they will face fellow Tipperary contenders Our Lady’s Secondary School from Templemore as well as Gaelcholáiste Mhuire An Mhainistir Thuaidh of Cork City.
In Group B Thurles CBS, who were last year’s beaten finalists take on St Joseph’s Secondary School of Tulla, who won the Harty in 2022. Cork pair St Colman’s College of Fermoy and Youghal’s Pobalscoil na Tríonóide are also in the group.
Nenagh CBS are in Group D and will take on Cork pair Charleville CBS and Bandon’s Hamilton High School while in Group E two Limerick sides - John The Baptist CS from Hospital and Castletroy College - will take on Edmund Rice Secondary School of Carrick-on-Suir.
The competition begins on Wednesday, October 11th. Once more it has proved hugely popular with 21 sides contesting the Harty Cup while there are 19 teams in the Corn Uí Mhuirí.
In the famed Harty Cup there are six groups with three comprising four teams and three with three teams.
The four highest-ranked group winners will progress straight to the semi-finals early in the new year while the remaining two sides finishing top and the four runners-up will play off in four preliminary quarter-finals.
In the Corn Uí Mhuirí, Abbey CBS in Tipp Town are the only Tipperary school involved in the Under 19A football competition.
They are in Group E alongside St. Pats Castleisland and Clonakilty CC.
