The Tipperary football championships round two ties got underway yesterday evening with Storm Betty in full flow meaning underfoot conditions were soft and puddly making for some low scoring games.

In the Senior Championship last years county finalists Upperchurch Drombane kept their season on track with a win over Killenaule on a 1-6 to 0-4 scoreline at The Ragg. Keith Ryan, Luke Shanahan and Arron Ryan were to the fore the Mid Tipp side.

There was somewhat of a shock in Cahir as recent winners Moyle Rovers where toppled by an up and coming Rockwell Rovers side. The New Inn based side got the vital goal to win on a scoreline of 1-11 to 0-12.

In the Intermediate championship Galtee Rovers/St Pecaun came from behind to overcome Aherlow Gaels in a tense encounter as a late Jack Crowe goal drifted into the top corner from out the field. Darren McGrath played a key role for the victors who won on a scoreline of  2-4 to 0-9 at Sean Treacy Park while in Killenaule in the other game it finished Mullinahone 2-9 JK Brackens 1-7.

There are eight games down for decision today in the championship. A double header in Leahy Park, Cashel gets the Senior action underway with reigning champions Clonmel Commercials facing Éire Óg Annacarty at 5.15pm,and after that the other two teams in group 1 - Drom-Inch & Kilsheelan-Kilcash - clash at the same venue at 7pm.

Group 2 action is at 6.30pm when newly promoted Ballina face Moycarkey-Borris in Templemore while in Boherlahan it’s Ardfinnan who take on Loughmore-Castleiney.

The Intermediate championship group games action gets underway with Thurles Sarsfields vs Loughmore-Castleiney in Templetuohy at 2.30pm.

Following that at 5pm there is a double header at Clonmel Sportsfield where Golden-Kilfeacle play Moyle Rovers second team. Then at 6.30pm it’s the youthful Grangemockler-Ballyneale taking on Fethard.

Finally, completing the schedule at 6pm in Cahir it is  Clonmel Óg who face off against their divisional opponents, Father Sheehy’s.
