Massive crowds expected for Sharlene Mawdsley's homecoming to Tipperary!

Sharlene Mawdsley is coming home this evening

Sharlene Mawdsley lit up this August for many Tipperary people. Her performances at the World Championships were simply outstanding and now her supporters, from near and far, get the opportunity to greet the star this evening.

The Newport AC sprinter returns to her home place this evening where a huge crowd is expected to greet her following her top performances in Budapest last month.

The 25-year-old, coached by fellow Tipperary native Gary Ryan, ran a personal best in the Women’s 400m heats whilst she also put in some fantastic performances as anchor for the Ireland mixed 4x400m relays early on at the championships.

She starred once more in the women’s 4x400m relays where Ireland again reached the final, the quartet punching well above their weight in no small part due to the fantastic anchor running of Sharlene.

Newport Athletics Club have put out an open invite to welcome their local star home to Birdhill and Newport this evening.  The time is set for 6.30pm at Newport Boys School. Early travelling to the event is advisable due to the crowd that is expected.

The Eircode is V94RX20 for those travelling long distances to the homecoming this evening.
