Batten down the hatches as heavy rain is expected in Tipperary

Up to 60 millimetres is expected to fall over the coming hours

Tipperary weather alert - heavy rain, sleet and maybe snow to follow and roads flooded

The warning for heavy rain is in place

A weather warning is in place for all of Tipperary and it will be in effect until tomorrow morning.

Met Éireann have said that we can expect heavy rainfall from 30mm to 60mm across Tipperary with the possibly of extra rain locally on higher hills.

The heavy and persistent rain across the county this morning is expected to ease off across the afternoon but it will return again this evening and later on tonight with heavy rain due to fall across the Munster region.

Warnings are in place for localised flooding with some travel disruption expected. Those travelling to the National Ploughing Championships are asked to allow plenty of time for travel.

The yellow alert issued was initially flagged for Tipperary yesterday and it remains in place across a number of counties including Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Donegal and the west of Ireland until the early hours of tomorrow morning.

Spells of rain will be heavy and persistent at times, especially on hills and mountains.
