Clonmel Credit Union League Divison 1
OLD BRIDGE 0 – 3 VEE ROVERS
This was an excellent result for the visitors, who took all three points from Ferryhouse against a side expected to be a promotion rival at the beginning of the season. The Bridge started the better, but apart from a few speculative shots from Michael O’Sullivan and Jake Mulcahy, they did not trouble the Vee goalkeeper.
Rovers forced a corner after 13 minutes, and they took the lead when Alan Condon fired a spectacular volley to the back of the net.
The Bridge really upped their game after this and dominated the exchanges for the remainder of the half. Jack Burke had a number of efforts that went close, and the Bridge were left collectively scratching their heads when, after several attempts during a goalmouth scramble, the ball miraculously failed to hit the net. Burke, Jake Mulcahy and Michael O’Sullivan were all off target, and the hosts were dealt a blow when Ciarán Walsh had to be replaced just on half time with an ankle injury.
Vee spurned a great chance shortly after the break when Zak Keating missed a very scorable chance, and seven minutes into the second period Bridge ‘keeper Kian Egan pulled off a good save as Vee Rovers began to threaten on the break. They effectively put the game to bed when a poor defensive clearance fell to Keating, and he made amends for his earlier miss when he waltzed through the Bridge defence to put his side two up.
That score knocked the stuffing of the home side as the game meandered towards its inevitable conclusion, and it was no surprise when marksman Alan Condon added a third in the 91st minute to put the cap on a good performance by his team.
