A total of 98 students from eight counties across 18 sports, including five from Tipperary, have been awarded UCC Sports Scholarships for 2023-2024.
The Tipperary recipients are camogie player Eimear Heffernan, from Kilfeacle; Gaelic footballers Riain Quigley, Ava Fennessy and Sean O'Connor, all from Clonmel; and hurler Darragh Stakelum from Knockeen.
The UCC Sport Scholarship programme aims to support athletes achieve their full potential and is divided into two main strands - UCC Team Sport Scholarships and UCC Individual Sport Scholarship.
Through the scholarship programme, students will be supported to develop and progress in their journey as talented athletes and meeting their academic goals through the UCC Sport Performance Programme.
The programme is tailored for UCC’s sports scholarship students, elite teams, and athletes performing at top level sport in third level sport in Cork, Munster, Ireland and internationally.
UCC Sport works with the university’s clubs, coaches and specialist staff in the areas of sports science, conditioning, nutrition, sports medicine, sports physiology and sports analysis.
UCC also has partnerships with national governing bodies and provincial sports organisations, and works with Sport Ireland in the delivery of their high performance strategy.
