Cashel Garda Station at Hogan Square, Cashel
The refurbishment of Cashel Garda Station will commence in the coming weeks and is being overseen by the Office of Public Works (OPW).
To facilitate the refurbishment works, An Garda Síochána vacated the old Garda Station on Thursday, November 23, 2023.
During the refurbishment period, An Garda Síochána’s public office will be located at Old Motor Tax Office Civic Offices, Friar Street in Cashel.
The half-days, three days a week, public office opening hours remain unchanged: Monday afternoon (1.30pm-4pm), Wednesday afternoon (1.30pm-4pm) and Friday until lunchtime ( 8am-1pm).
People in need can call Cashel Garda Station on 062 75840 (which will divert to Cahir) or diall 999 or 112. Regarding the changes Cashel-based Tipperary Sinn Féin TD Martin Browne said that he welcomed the refurbishment:
“The works are scheduled to be completed by next summer,” he said.
“These works will be welcome, as our gardai need a more suitable environment in which to work. I have also been informed of planned regular opening hours of Monday 1.30pm-4pm, Wednesday 1.30pm-4pm, Friday 8am-1pm. Any changes to those hours will be updated on the An Garda Síochána Tipperary Facebook Page.
“I would prefer longer opening hours. I will continue to make the case for an extension to these hours. I have been making regular enquiries on this and will continue to raise the matter with the Minister for Justice.”
Councillor Declan Burgess, Cathaoirleach of the Tipperary/Cahir/Cashel Municipal District welcomes the agreement that the old Motor Tax Office on Friar Street in Cashel will be utilised by An Garda Síochána while works are ongoing for refurbishment and upgrading of the existing station in Hogan Square.
Speaking on the matter he said: “I appreciate the direct engagement our council management team and An Garda Síochána have had with me on this issue.”
“This cooperation is very much needed at the moment to ensure a presence is maintained in Cashel town. I have worked hard on this temporary position and advocating at high levels of Government to ensure Cashel enhances its policing presence,” he added in a statement.
