Twenty-four ladies from Comeragh Rangers Gaelic4Mothers&Others group made a once in a lifetime trip to New York this month to take part in the New York G4M&O football blitz.

Eight teams travelled from Ireland to participate in the blitz with eight New York teams.

The Rathgormack based Comeragh Rangers, who travelled to New York on November 10, were the only county Waterford team.

A total of 250 women took part in the competition at the famous Gaelic Park grounds in The Bronx on Sunday, November 12.

From start to finish it was an amazing day and so well organised.

RTE’s Marty Morrissey commentated and was a major hit with the players. GAA President Larry McCarthy also attended.

It was quite an emotional experience with most women there thinking they would probably never play football again,  never mind play in Gaelic Park. It was quite a pinch me moment and life doesn’t get much better than this!

A wholesome weekend was had by all with sightseeing and socialising in the city that never sleeps.

Comeragh Rangers G4M&O was set up only 13 months ago, organised by Edel Halpin.

We are blessed with the best coaches namely Bláithín Flynn, Róisín Power, Marian Vaughan, Barbara Greene and Claire Hennebry, not forgetting the most important people - the players from Rathgormack and surrounding areas.

Little did we think on that first night of training in October 2022, that we would end up in New York, just one year later.

A massive achievement and we are growing from strength to strength with over 70 ladies registered. A credit to all involved.

Gaelic4Mothers&Others is a great initiative to get women back playing sport again in a fun and non-competitive environment and is a great way to meet new people. We have ladies from age 25 to 60, which is proof that age is only a number.

We would like to thank New York LGFA for giving us this lifetime experience and for looking after us so well. It will be hard to beat this one! Go raibh míle maith agaibh.
