Carrick-on-Suir’s three primary schools have received donations of Finding Charlie’s Voice communications boards that are a visual aid to support children’s communication skills.
Carrick-on-Suir’s Réalta Sports Club for Children with Special Needs has donated the boards to Gaelscoil Charraig na Siúire, Presentation Primary School and St Mary’s CBS also known as the Green School.
Breda Tobin, Secretary of Réalta Sports Club, paid tribute to Home School Community Liaison Coordinator Samantha Manscell, who assisted the club with this project, and the principals of the three schools for their support.
The communications boards are supplied by Finding Charlie’s Voice, an Irish charity that supports children and young adults with speech & language communications needs.
The board is a visual aid to help any person, young or old, who has a difficulty with communicating or understanding, ranging from people with Down’s Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder to those with language and sound disorders to people for whom English is a new language or have an anxiety around speaking.
Réalta Sports Club, which was formed in 2022, plans to donate more communications boards to schools next year.
