Tipperary County Board have received a €1 million cheque as a good will gesture from JP McManus who is donating the funds as he has seen the benefit of gaelic games and All-Ireland success in his own county Limerick.
The money will go towards clubs in Tipperary and the officers are busy this week preparing to move the money on to cash-strapped clubs across the county. The board confirmed today that it will be distributed equally to clubs over the next six weeks.
Every county in Ireland received the same amount in a cheque this week - with the valuable paper going to GAA officers across the country - and today Tipperary County Board confirmed their "sincere gratitude" to JP and his wife Noreen for their generosity to the clubs in the Premier County.
A statement released today reads as follows: "Tipperary GAA would like to acknowledge and thank JP McManus, his wife Noreen, and their children for their incredible generosity on the news yesterday that they are donating €1m to Tipperary GAA for distribution to clubs across the Gaelic Games family in the county.
"Tipperary GAA can confirm receipt of the €1m donation and would like to place on record our sincere gratitude to JP McManus and his family for this fantastic gesture of support.
"All financial distributions to the clubs in Tipperary will be completed by January 31st 2024."
The news will come as a welcome surprise to Tipperary clubs who are struggling with heating bills, coaching costs, pitch developments and many other issues on a weekly basis.
The Christmas bonus will be worth between €6800 and €7000 to each club in Tipperary however in counties with fewer clubs the money will go further, with clubs in Sligo - for example - making approximately €30,000 from the transaction.
This lump sum towards clubs in each county will benefit camogie, ladies football, gaelic football and hurling teams in each county - no doubt a welcome surprise from the Limerick sporting legend who has seen the Treaty hurlers win four-in-a-row of All-Ireland hurling titles since the turn of the decade.
