Massive reaction to the 'Dillon Quirke Foundation' feature on television!

Nationwide programme on RTE featured the Foundation that was set up in memory of the Tipperary hurler who passed away during a club game in 2022.

The hurling world is diminished by the sad passing of Tipperary and Clonoulty/Rossmore player Dillon Quirke

The Dillon Quirke Foundation featured tonight on Nationwide, broadcast on RTE One, and the reaction was overwhelmingly positive about the Foundation that is called after the Tipperary hurler who passed away during a club hurling match in Semple Stadium. After the show aired tonight, people across the country were touched emotionally: "Incredible tribute to Dillon tonight," the Clonoulty Rossmore official GAA account posted on 'X', adding that "We are very proud of what the Quirke family have achieved in Dillon's memory".

Tipperary hurler Michael Breen was among the masses posting about the programme and he broadcast online about the Foundation featuring on the programme, saying: "What a cause and what a legacy". After the show the feedback was hugely complimentary with, for example, 'rebelsabu' posting 'Great little piece there on nationwide about the Dillon Quirke foundation and hopefully providing the whole GAA community free screening going forward'. Many other tributes poured in, for example, commentator and journalist Stephen Gleeson said: "Superb to see the great work of the Dillon Quirke Foundation highlighted on tv this evening".

Former Tipperary footballer - and Munster Hall of Fame winner - Declan Browne admires the work of the Foundation and pointed out that it is "Incredible charity, to have free screening available in the future would be a brilliant legacy of Dillon, well done to all involved." Cathy McDermott advised people on the 'X' platform formerly known as twitter that it was: "worth a watch to find out more about this wonderful foundation set up by the Quirke family following the loss of their son Dillon Quirke aged 24 from SADS". Many others reacted to the show with the feedback overwhelmingly positive.

Earlier today 'Nationwide' posted that "The aim of the Dillon Quirke Foundation is to fund widespread cardiac screening for young people involved in sport". Research has shown that cardiac screening can significantly reduce the incidence of SADS by up to 89%. Check out some of the tweets relating to the show below. The Foundation works to ensure Cardiac screening for girls and boys to help identify heart conditions that could lead to Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS).
